Cellulite Q & A

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is described as “orange peel” skin because the affected areas of your body have the dimpled, slightly bumpy appearance of an orange peel. Cellulite is most frequently found on the thighs and buttocks but can develop on the abdomen, breasts, and upper arms as well.

Cellulite is a buildup of fat cells that push up through the fibrous connective tissue that holds the skin to the muscles underneath. The fat cells pushing up are squeezed by the connective tissue pulling down, creating the uneven dimpling effect of cellulite.

What causes cellulite?

The precise cause of cellulite isn’t clear, but certain factors can put you at an increased risk of developing cellulite. It can be worse if you’re overweight, so losing weight could help reduce the severity of your cellulite, but even slender people still get cellulite.

Lack of exercise can make cellulite worse, and you may see an increase in cellulite during and after pregnancy. Women are far more likely to have cellulite than men, and after puberty, most women will have at least a little cellulite somewhere on their body.

There’s also a degree of genetic predisposition, so if members of your family have cellulite, you’re more likely to have it as well.

How is cellulite treated?

Cellulite isn’t dangerous or harmful and doesn’t require medical treatment. However, you might find it unsightly and wish for smoother skin. There are many creams and lotions available that claim to reduce cellulite, but none are as effective as specialist aesthetic treatments.

Dr. Alperovich and his team use the Alma Accent Prime™ aesthetic platform to effectively reduce areas of cellulite and give you smoother, softer skin.

The Accent Prime combines radiofrequency energy and a massaging applicator to metabolize fat cells through the application of controlled deep heat. The radiofrequency waves also help stimulate subsequent drainage through the lymphatic system.

Accent Prime is a safe, noninvasive solution for cellulite that doesn’t require any downtime; you just carry on with your day as you normally would once your treatment session is over. To find out more about reducing your cellulite, call Pure Aesthetics Medica today or book using the online tool.
